It's Not As Rough As It Used To Be

Since autumn 2008, we have been working on a major critical regeneration project, the first part of which was developed during our collaborative artist residency at Art Gene in Barrow-in-Furness.

The work is grouped under the title 'Its Not As Rough As It Used To Be' and has a number of strands: new 3D interventions in Google Earth, a series of outdoor public events along the coast and a gallery installation which premiered on 20th November. UHC's work also featured in Art Gene's exhibition 'Welcome To Paradise' in February 2009.

The project also involves experimental work with lasers and architecture, to reconnect Barrow's town centre with the beautiful natural coastline around the peninsula. The results can be seen in the separate project section 'Laser Jetties'.

Central to our activity is a desire to engage younger hard to reach audiences, to inspire an interest in design-led regeneration and to provide social space to encourage fresh discussion around issues of urban environmentalism.

UHC's designers have worked closely with Art Gene's founders Maddi Nicholson and Stuart Bastik in creating the print identities for their Programme.

Sketchup models created as part of the project can be found at 3d warehouse

You can see video outputs of these models at UHC's youtube playlist.
