Giant Map Pin

Three events led by UHC were held in Barrow In Furness during January and February 2009. They were arranged as part of our "It's Not As Rough As It Used To Be" collaborative project with residency hosts Art Gene.

The pin was designed by UHC, with its aim to 'pin point' under-used places of interest and present a space for artists to react to the landscape with new work (in this case, our own 'Laser Jetties').

The locations selected in Barrow were Stuart Bastik's Eco-Shed, an old WWII searchlight bunker and the power station/abandoned racetrack at Roosecote.

Each of these sites correspond to buildings which have been rendered as 3D models and uploaded to Google Earth, as the start of our plans to create a GoogleBarrow map of interesting locations in the town.

The Giant Map Pin will now tour locations in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool as our "It's Not As Rough As It Used To Be" project expands and explores the North West. Other artist/collaborators will be invited to react to the spaces 'pin pointed', in exploration of sustainable, community driven regeneration.
