Notice of Emergency Road Closure.
Advice for drivers.

FOR EVERYONE'S SAFETY -
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THROUGH THIS BLOCKADE -
THERE ARE PEOPLE PHYSICALLY LOCKED TO IT.

After the biggest political demonstration of this country's history, the biggest revolt of MPs against their own party, since the UN inspector's plea for more time. After so many have lobbied, argued, pleaded and fought tooth and nail through the highest political channels. - the will of the people has been ignored.

We were briefly humoured by our Prime Minister - who went on to politely suggested we all go home and shut up.

Now the Manchester police are beating up school children for protesting. We have had enough.

This road through our community is closed today because a war has been started in our name
but not with our consent. Because the government's reaction to democratic protest is deplorable.

This community is now on strike and this is our picket line.

We urge you to put down your work and join your neighbours in active opposition to war.

Please respect our democratic right to protest today. This temporary closure is an inconvenience for which we apologise (we're sure you'll agree that a few minutes added to your usual journey time is a minor inconvenience compared with the suffering felt by innocent Iraqi civilians). Remember that other events block roads all the time (marathons, carnivals), and people are tolerant!

We will obviously grant access to ambulances, should they need it.
You and your vehicle will not be trapped here.

For peace and justice.

The blockade closes the road, but opens the way.
